Tips for Bringing Dogs to family photos

So your considering bringing your dog to your family photos but not sure on how that will work. I would love to encourage you with a few helpful tips to making your photo session with your dog run smoothly. After all our dogs are such a big part of our family!

Before we dive into tips for prepping your dog for family photos you will always want check with your photographer that you will be photographing in a location that allows dog access.

Show up Early

Show up early to give your dog a chance to explore the area leading into a short walk to get some of their energy out. Bring a ball to play a short game of fetch, I know that’s a sure way to tire my dogs and its a way to get them relaxed when its time to pose.

Bring their favorite treats and toys

Treats are key for capturing attention and rewarding good behavior during the session. A squeaky toy or favorite ball can also help your photographer grab your dog’s attention and keep them engaged.

Bring a helping hand

If possible bring a family member or friend who will not be participating in family photos to help take your pet when not having their photo taken. They also work as a good assistant to the photographer when it comes to grabbing your pets attention when needed.

Embrace candid moments

The best family photos with dogs often aren’t the posed ones—they’re the playful, snuggly, or goofy in-between shots. Don’t stress if your pup doesn’t sit perfectly. Those authentic moments are what make your photos full of personality.

If you’re looking for a family photographer in Phoenix who loves working with pets, I’d love to help you capture those special moments.
